1. May 2005 Initiative:
A group of friends who believe that democracy and liberalism are the best solutions for Iraq after long decades of tyranny and oppression. The initiative to establish an organization to be named later "The Coalition for Liberal Democratic Iraq" (C.L.D.I.) created the Coalition which was given the abbreviation (ADL) according to the first letters of the name. (ADL) in Arabic means (Justice) in English. The Declaration was approved by the members attending the meeting and published accordingly. 

2. The Establishment Meeting:
The establishment meeting was held in the Children Art School hall on 28.7.2005 and the elections was carried out to result in:
1. Secretary General: Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Wandawi
2. Assistant Secretary General: Dr. Thamir Al-Amiri
Deputy Secretary General:
     1. Mr. Ali Al-Soodani
     2. Mr. Hussain Al-Bahraini
     3. Mrs. Dalila Abdulaziz
Members of The General Secretariat:
     1. Mr. Riyadh Al-Fahad
     2. Mr. Hazim Al-Muhammadawi
     3. Mr. Kifah Hasan
     4. Mr. Faisal Al-Tamimi
     5. Mr. Nizar Akrawi


The (C.L.D.I.) made the application for registration to the Ministry of Civil Society in 28.9.2005 in preparation to joining the general election for the Parliament.

3. Constitution Conference 28.7.2005:
On 28.7.2005, The (C.L.D.I.) arranged for a public conference in the Hall room of the Hunting Club and by coordination with the Club, a big meeting under the slogan (The Role of the Individual and Media in Drafting the Constitution). The conference was a success and could attract many discussions and explanations. It is worth to mention that the first Draft Constitution for New Iraq was written by Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Wandawi in 1997 and published in 1998 (http://iraqconstitution.freeservers.com).

An introduction complimentary visit by the Secretary General and other Members of C.L.D.I. was paid to Dr. Ahmed Chalabi, Vice Prime Minister on 13.9.2005


 

4. 1.10.2005 Conference:
The conference was held by the general body to study the possibilities of nominating a candidates list for the elections for the Parliament. It was agreed that the nominations should be made and the request was prepared and the approval of the Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq was issued in 3.10.2005 under List No. 436. The candidates list included, after meeting with other groups, different names that included all the spectrum of the Iraqi people.

5. Candles Ceremony 4.10.2005:
The (C.L.D.I.) arranged for an open air ceremony that included lighting hundreds of candles in Hurriya Square in Karrada in Baghdad, in commemoration of victims of terrorism and making public prayers. The square looked sad and solemn under the lights of thousands of candles. Passing people and cars stopped and paid tribute to the victims by lighting a candle each and making the prayers.

6. Wheelchairs 11.10.2005:
The (C.L.D.I.) called for a public gathering to distribute wheelchairs to the handicapped in coordination with a group of handicapped veterans. The celebration included playing folklore music and songs by a public musical team and distribution of hundreds of the Draft Constitution to passersby in addition to distribution of 100 brand new wheelchairs. The Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Chalabi and the Baghdad Ameen Dr. Sabir Al-Issawi sponsored the event and participated in giving sums of money to every handicapped who received a wheelchair as a gift.

7. Tents 15.10.2005
A new campaign to distribute copies of the Draft Constitution was carried out by erecting colorful and small tents and distributing copies of the Draft Constitution from these tents which were supplied with a table and 4 seats. In spite of the security conditions, the campaign was a success in distribution of hundreds of copies to people. The assistance of International bodies was requested with no success. The first tent was erected for one day in Tahrir square and the second was in Hurriya square. Another 2 tents were sent to other places but not erected. The project was not continued due to security conditions.
